It's Your Money. Tell Us How to Spend It.

Loflin

As I write this, four months have passed since I took office as CDS Chairman when Bill Dunn, John Faircloth, Tom McMillan and Harry Averill joined Forrest Wilson, Frank Ohidy and myself on the Board. A question I believe every CDS member should be asking us is, What is the current state of the Section?

Despite an incredibly poor economy, the answer is financially stable. We have money in the bank, no outstanding debts, and can meet our immediate financial obligations. That doesn’t mean we can’t do better.

Of particular concern to the Board is whether we are spending your money in ways that best meet your needs and the needs of the community as a whole. In an accompanying article you will read about concerns we have with Underwater Speleology magazinew. We all like UWS, but there are zero-cost alternatives that would enable us to share even more information while freeing up funds to buy more dive sites and improve the ones we have. We’d like to know what you think about this.

While the various online bulletin boards and forums seem to be the current target for this discussion, we need to hear from our members directly. The feedback we receive on this will determine whether or not we take UWS online exclusively, eliminating a print version. This is your organization. Talk to us; we’ll listen. We need to hear your opinions and wishes for the direction of the CDS.
