After a few weeks of being back on the Board, I am slowly getting the picture of the Section's status. I should be up to speed on the business of the Section by the next column and can give you a more informative column by then.
I would like to start by thanking the retiring members of the previous Board for their service to the Section.
Next, I would like to thank Beth Murphy for the excellent workshop. Everyone I've spoken with that was in attendance has said it was an outstanding workshop.
Bill Rotella has volunteered to be the 2011 workshop Chair and the Board has approved his request to have it in Marianna again. It is my opinion the 2012 workshop should return to Otter Springs. Do we have a volunteer for the 2012 workshop chair?
Beth is retiring as Underwater Speleology Editor after she completes this issue. Again Beth has done a marvelous job of putting together the premire cave diving periodical for us to read. Thank you, Beth. Which means we are in the search for an editor for the next issue. If you are interested in editing Underwater Speleology, please contact Forrest as I will be out of the country until early August.
What you can expect from me as Chairman. It is my position that as much NSS-CDS business as possible will be conducted at the scheduled meetings. Emergency business and previous meeting minutes will be conducted via the open forum with the closed forum restricted to sensitive emergent issues such as relating to instructor issues, personnel issues or business confidential issues where the competition does not need to know.
The NSS-CDS is a membership organization. The Board of Directors is elected by the membership to look after the best interest of the membership. You can call me or email (remember I'm gone until August) and I'll do my best to address you recommendations or concerns. I'm looking for ways the Section can improve it's service to you.
Dive safely,
Gene
